About the Computational tool
A user-friendly online interface for simulating and visualizing the ultrafast opto-thermal response of thin metal films, providing the conditions for excitation of Surface Plasmons and formation of Periodic Surface Structures under irradiation of the solid with femtosecond laser pulses. To perform the simulations, simply select your laser parameters (wavelength, pulse duration, pulse delay), choose a metal (Au, Ag, Cu, etc.) and substrate (Si, SiO₂, glass or air), In addition to the determination of the conditions leading to the generation of periodic patterns, the code allows to view interactive plots of reflectivity, transmissivity, absorptivity and the time-resolved electron & lattice temperature profiles with data and figures downloadable for further analysis. The tool also allows the calculation of the damage threshold (i.e. minimum fluence to melt the material) while it employs machine learning based approaches to accelerate this process.
